In the first two months of 2020, we have experienced a pair of epic road trips to reach the two most important trade shows in the AV industry, NAMM and ISE.
While the shows were both fantastic, the real joy came from the road trips themselves, largely thanks to the ridiculous people I’m fortunate enough to work with.
Finding the right person to fill a role at a rapidly growing small company is always a challenge. But from the trips we’ve taken so far this year it has become increasingly clear how important it is to find the right person for the company culture and then build the job to suit them. The industry we focus on means we will all be spending a lot of time hanging out together away from the office. For some people this could be a real chore, but when you have the right team in place, it doesn’t feel like work.
The core team we now have makes the time away from home fly by. We are all very different, but we enjoy each other’s company. We all work incredibly hard, but know how to stop and relax together. Even though we have a huge amount of work to do, the stress levels never seem to rise to unhealthy levels. And if they look like they are going that way, we are able to step in to make things easier.
Company culture is driven from the top, and with our founder Barney Jameson we have a leader who is creating a business in his own image. Yes, that image may be slightly crazy and cause some people to wonder how he is even still alive, but it is the perfect fit for what we want to do as The Inside Story.
